Anionic Surfactants

Surfactants that possess a negative charge on their hydrophilic head group, are anionic surfactants. These typically consist of a sulfate, sulfonate or carboxylate hydrophilic head group. They are the commercial workhorses for most detergents, shampoos, and most cleaning products due to their excellent cleaning and foaming properties and are highly effective in removing dirt and grease.

SSPL offers –Linear Alkyl Sulfonate/ Alfa Olefin Sulfonate /Alcohol Sulfate / Alcohol Ether Sulfate

  • Alpha olefin sulfonates

    • Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS) is a versatile and highly effective anionic surfactant derived from alpha-olefins. It is available in the form of liquid, paste, needles, noodle or powder and is widely used across various applications due to its excellent cleaning and foaming properties. AOS is also widely used in Sulfate free formulations.
    • SSPL offers two grades of AOS – C14 and C14-16.
    • CAS Number: 68439-57-6

  • Methyl Ester Sulfonates

    • Methyl Ester Sulfonates (MES) are anionic surfactants derived from renewable vegetable oils, typically palm oil or coconut oil. MES are formed by sulfonating methyl esters of fatty acids, making them an environmentally friendly and biodegradable surfactant with excellent cleaning properties.
They are natural green surfactants and possesses excellent detergency, foaming, low skin irritation, hard water tolerance, and are cost-effective.
    • MES are used various applications like Detergents, Cleaning formulations, Personal Care formulations, Textiles auxiliaries, Emulsifiers and Oil field among others
    • SSPL offers MES in forms compatible with all product types - dry free-flowing powder, flakes and paste

  • Alcohol Speciality Sulfates

    • Specialized Alcohol Sulfates, such as Zinc, potassium and Triethanolamine (TEA) salts of fatty alcohol sulfates, are anionic surfactants derived from fatty alcohols that have been sulfated and neutralized with zinc, potassium or TEA.
    • These specialized salts are known for their enhanced performance and mildness, making them ideal for personal care and industrial applications.
    • Zinc Alcohol Sulfates are extremely mild and hence can be used in cosmetics. Their antibacterial properties also lend them useful in dandruff, sebum and odour controlling products.
    • TEA Alcohol Sulfates find use in both skincare and haircare. They are known to create a rich and luxurious texture in haircare formulations and possess great cleaning and foaming ability in skincare products such as cleansers and face and body washes.
    • Potassium Alcohol Sulfates are used in toilet soaps, syndet bars, Shaving bars and Face washes as foaming and cleaning agents.

  • Alcohol ether Sulfates

    • Alcohol Ether Sulfates (AES) with varying degree of ethoxylation levels are anionic surfactants known for their excellent solubility, mildness, and superior performance in various applications.
    • These surfactants are derived from linear fatty alcohols and ethoxylated with varying moles of ethylene oxide and subsequently sulfated, neutralized and stabilized.
    • These are used in various applications like personal care, Industrial and household formulations, and specialized applications like Agriculture, Oilfield, and metal working.
